What an amazing place - it was the most authentic & unique stay we had during our trip to Japan. The house is huge and has tons of traditional Japanese character. It’s located in a tiny mountain village, with stunning walks on the doorstep. The host Shinji was incredibly welcoming - we booked dinner for our family and it was a brilliant experience. We loved sitting by a traditional hearth and eating locally sourced & freshly prepared dishes. Traditional onsen bath was a cherry on top. Overall a brilliant, quintessential Japan experience - I’d recommended anyone staying here if you can.

wonderful place, with a small indoor garden. Wooden bathtub with window (though the tub is a bit small), tea ceremony was fantastic, great local recommended food, everything quiets down around 9pm for a peaceful night. also fantastic host

je suis ravi de ma nuit là-bas : j'ai pu partager un vrai moment de partage pendant le repas du soir (~19h) proposer par l'hôte (en fair lui seul prépare à manger mais j'avais quand même des cadeaux à partager). Un moment comme j'en ai rarement eu au Japon. c'est une vraie maison Japonaise ancienne, donc certains équipements ne sont pas aussi rutilant qu'en Europe (toilette, salle de bain, mais correct pour moi) et l'isolation thermiques et sonores est souvent faible. D'ailleurs l'hôte essaie d'y remédier vu le nombre d'isolant sur les murs. Ma chambre était spacieuse, privé et propre. Contente de pouvoir faire mon yoga. La couverture chaude, le futon un peu fin pour moi mais semblable à ceux d'autres endroits. Etonné par la possibilité de transport (train ou bus possible), très pratique depuis Toyama. Un hôte minutieux et accueillant! wifi niquel, panneaux en 4 langues dans chaque pièce. Bref si vous voulez un hôtel, passer votre chemin, mais pour rencontrer des gens c'est ici!

Calen was a wonderful host and his inn is cozy and comfortable. Convenient access a straight tram ride from Toyama Station. He extended a warm welcome even late in the evening, the room was perfect and I slept like a baby. Powerful hot shower, great wifi, and he rose at 5 am to make the guests breakfast. Many thanks Calen, I hope to visit someday with my family.

This place is central to all the port attractions and easy to get to Toyama city on the tram. Calen is a friendly and helpful host. The breakfasts were very good.

HOUSEHOLD is an absolute pearl! We spent two nights in the former Obi factory, discovering first the little details of the place, and later the closer surroundings of Himi town. The room we have stayed in was on the top floor and was wonderful—overlooking the misty Toyama Bay, we fell asleep to the sound of the waves and woke up to the morning sun. The food and coffee we were served were just impeccable, the recommendations for lunch and dinner were sincere and outstanding. We were able to go fishing one afternoon together with the owner Natsumi-san and had an absolutely great time! There is a huge kitchen to use (f.ex. to grill your caught fish), but there are many other things to do (library) and events (café, cooking courses, …) to attend. The entire team of HOUSEHOLD is very competent, funny, and incredibly kind.
