Hiriketiya Beach

There are many small restaurants on the beach and you can watch the surfers or surf yourself.
If a busier scene is your kind of thing head down to Hiriketiya bay, turn left on the main road from the Green House for 10 minutes and the turning is before the town Dickwella. Famous for its surfing, there are two areas for this, smaller waves which fan throughout the shallows of the bay or the point break out towards the left for the more advanced surfers in the group. It isn't a wide beach and it gets rather busy in high season (November-March). If you have little ones with you it might not be the best option for the whole day as there isn't huge amounts of space to run and play. Hiriketiya has a plethora of beach bars and little restaurants to try, we like Garlic Cafe, located just off the main road on the way to the beach and boasts a lovely atmosphere in the evening, especially when their fairy lights are turned on! Its a buffet style cafe that that isn't costly (roughly $5) for an evening meal and does Sri Lankan curries. Bahia, another restaurant that has a relaxed feel that's well needed after a day on Hiriketiya Beach. Bahia's food menu is small, but done well, it has a mixture of more western style dishes. We recommend the Mahi Mahi! A meal here will cost around $10-11 and does arguably the best Americano around.
