A 30-minute drive from Spokane, this 18,000-acre refuge gives you an up-close look at some of the unique terrain in our region, including basalt outcrops, channeled canyons, and ponderosa pine forests in a landscape of over 130 marshes, wetlands, and lakes. Our first experience here was in early spring, where most of the vegetation was still bare and brown…perfect conditions for seeing a moose, which we did! Believe it or not, we are in moose country here, one more enchanting aspect of living in the Inland Empire.

(35 min. drive) This is one of our favorite places to view wildlife. It includes trails with views of ponds and lakes and a 5-mile auto route.
