I love these guys, I worked for Hog Island for 10 years in various capacities. I established and operated their oyster bar at Ferry Building. Their staff is extremely helpful in educating people, they even have a dedicated oyster educator named George Kurtz. He leads the farm tours for Hog Island, something you can schedule and book. Take your oysters to go and head over to the Millerton Trail. It’s a county park. You can park your car there, it’s not over-crowded, and you can bring your bucket of oysters and a bottle of wine, put your feet in the sand. Go midweek, if you can.

If you are looking to export the greater Bay Area, highly suggest taking a tour (weekdays only) or heading out to shuck some fresh oysters. The drive on the iconic highway 1 is always fun.

Best oysters & manila clams ever. It can get really busy on the weekends.

Enjoy fresh oysters and a cold one at the outside bar. Or, grab a baguette, cheese, and drinks in Point Reyes Station on your way then buy a bag of oysters at Hog Island and have your own picnic along Tomales Bay. (You can purchase oyster shucking tool there.)

Best place to pick up oysters after a long (or short) day of hiking in Point Reyes.
