The monastery was founded on 21 November 1347 by the King and later Emperor Charles IV. As King of Bohemia Charles IV. as patrons of the monastery church, he also chose the Czech patrons - Saint Adalbert and Prokop - in addition to the Virgin Mary. When he chose St. Cyril, Methodius, and Jerome (he was supposed to be of Slavic origin at that time), he meant not only the policy towards the East but also bold plans that could culminate in the unification of the Greek and Roman Churches. It also calls for monks from the Balkans who were allowed to serve the Roman liturgy in the Old Slavic language. This is a beautiful modernist church. You can see it looking left from the flat. (just a tiny bit :D)
