Much lauded in the neighborhood and beyond, chef Marcus Samuelsson’s Red Rooster has become an attraction in and of itself to Harlem. The lively comfort food restaurant has been packing people in since 2010 for dishes such as shrimp and grits, a loaded seafood jambalaya, and fried chicken with red velvet waffles. After a 2011 visit by President Barack Obama, his meal is forever known as the menu as “Obama short ribs,” which come braised with lobster & biscuits, bok choy, and a molasses glaze.

Famous and local chef Marcus Samuelsson's spot. Everything here is the bomb, but especially the fried chicken. Oh and the mac & cheese side. And the blistered tomato side. And the asparagus side. And the cauliflower steak entree for vegans. But mostly just go with 5+ friends and get the Chicken Tower. OMG. Cocktails are also on point (but the wine list is just eh).

Located in the heart of Harlem, Red Rooster serves comfort food celebrating the roots of American cuisine and the diverse culinary traditions of the neighborhood. We seek to share the story of Harlem with our guests and offer a space that celebrates local artists, musicians and culinary talents alike. They embrace today’s Harlem with a spirit of inclusiveness and community by hiring a family of staff from within the community, inspiring better eating through neighborhood cooking classes, and buying from local purveyors.
