The Antioquia Museum (former Municipal Palace) is a museum located in the center of Medellín that houses collections with international relevance. It was the first founded in the department of Antioquia and the second in Colombia. It is located in front of Plaza Botero, near the Parque Berrío metro station.
It is the most important museum in Medellín and one of the most renowned in Colombia. It was the first museum founded in the department of Antioquia and the second in the country. Its collections are located right in the center of Medellín, facing Botero Plaza, near the Parque Berrío metro station.
An absolutely jaw-dropping collection of art hidden away in an unassuming museum — a building that was once a aguardiente factory and later the palace of Rafael Uribe Uribe, the Governor of Antioquia. The third floor all by itself would be worth the trip as it houses an staggering collection of invaluable works by Botero (and some from his personal collection) and — like the statues in the adjacent plaza — all works were donated to the city by the artist himself. Amazing. The next two floors feature a beyond impressive collection of works by other Colombian & Antioquian artists from Francisco Antonio Cano to Pedro Nel Gómez. Amazing.
