DC has large Ethiopian and Eritrean communities, and is fairly well-known for its numerous Ethiopian restaurants. Food is typically served family-style, with injera bread used as your utensils.

Incredible delicious and affordable Eritrean food with warm service. A family owned gem and a cuisine fairly unique to Washington. Don't miss it!

May be your first experience at an Eritrean restaurant; try the fuul with egg for a filling, cheap breakfast or lunch.

Another Michelin bib gourmand. It's not in the neighborhood, and it's a bit of a walk, but we can't not tell you about our favorite family restaurant in DC. Even if you would have never thought you'd want to try eritrean food, you should (imagine if middle eastern food and ethiopian food had a baby under italian occupation). The owners are the nicest people in history, always quick to cater to children, who respond shockingly well to colorful healthy foods you can eat with your hands. Unbelievably inexpensive.
