A bit far to travel, BUT this is Mexico City´s best Contemporary Art museum with great curators and avant-garde exhibits. Good museum shop. Take Metrobus all the way down to the University and just cross the highway, it is a 30 minute ride from Condesa.
Take a whole day to visit this Museum. It's inside the UNAM (Autonomous National University of Mexico) and in this area it has 3 theatres, one dance and one concert hall.
If you are into contemporary art, this museum has great exhibitions from around the world. It is better if you arrive early in the morning as it gets busy in the afternoon. The museum has its own restaurant offering Mexican and international cuisine.
One of the most competitive museums worldwide. Excellent curations going on in big areas, plus it's in the middle of the National Autonomous University Campus (campus' soccer team: first division Pumas), with great gardens and views -also perfect for an impromptu picnic (!) at Las Islas, at the feet…
It is located in Coyoacán, one of the nicest neighborhoods of Mexico City, called MUAC, has a permanent collection with almost 1,500 pieces and features works from 1952.

“Many famous Mexican sculpture artist were invited to do a piece for this amazing space in the Universidad Autónoma de México. The most famous sculpture is called "Cráter" but on the other side of the street there are many others just as fantastic. Being surrounded by this beautiful, Mexican, untouched site, is a real privilege. ”

College Administrative Building
“Ciudad Universitaria (University City), Mexico, is the main campus of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), located in Coyoacán borough in the southern part of Mexico City. Designed by architects Mario Pani and Enrique del Moral, it encloses the Olympic Stadium, about 40 faculties and institutes, the Cultural Center, an ecological reserve, the Central Library, and a few museums. It was built during the 1950s on an ancient solidified lava bed in Coyoacán called "El Pedregal" to replace the scattered buildings in downtown Mexico City where classes were given. It was completed in 1954 at a cost of approximately $25 million. At the time of its completion it was the largest single construction project in Mexico since the Aztecs. It was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2007.”

“Mexico City´s national art gallery. Great museum shops not to miss. The plaza outside is beautiful and there are a couple of cafés there where you can sit down and have a coffee and even eat something worthwhile (Girasoles and Eric Kayser have quality food). The museum has changing exhibits of pre-modernist art.”
