Kyoto Museum of Contemporary Art, located in Gion, opened in November 1981 to exhibit the work of modern and contemporary artists. Exhibited here are Japanese and Western style painting, industrial arts, photography and calligraphy by modern and contemporary artists, including the famous ceramicist Kitaoji Rosanjin (who is also the founder of the Bishoku Club), Kagaku Murakami and Kaoru Yamaguchi.
