The Point San Luis Lighthouse was built in 1889 after “The Queen of the Pacific” ran aground, en route to the (now) Harford Pier. In operation until 1974, in 1992 the Lighthouse and surrounding property was granted by the Federal government to the Port San Luis Harbor District. In 1995, The Harbor District aided in the formation of the Point San Luis Lighthouse Keepers Opens a New Window. , a not-for-profit corporation established to preserve, restore and open this precious and historical site to the public. It is on PGE property so access is available only on Saturday and Wednesday. The docent lead hike is moderate with spectacular views and interesting information about flora, fauna, geology and history of the area out to the lighthouse which is in itself fun to see and learn about. Make reservations for the hike on line: Pecho Coast Trail.
Take a trolley or hike out to San Luis Lighthouse. Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the gorgeous views of the Pacific Ocean.
