It's an incredible, Bombay inspired Indian restaurant. Share as many things on the menu as you can. Everything is delicious. They don't take reservations so there's often a long queue but you can usually get into the bar area to wait. Or beat the queues and head for breakfast - bacon or egg naan rolls available!

A seaside town. It's home to an eclectic mix of shops, cafes and bars. Just a 30 minute train journey from Edinburgh, North Berwick offers striking views out to the Firth of Forth and the Bass Rock, the world's largest northern gannet colony. Or hire a bike on a sunny day and take the costal route. You can bring bikes back on the train if you don't fancy the return journey.

Walk through the town or visit one of the cafés and restaurants which line the main street to admire the Forth Bridges that cross over to Fife. The Forth Bridge, a railway bridge which was completed over 125 years ago, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a spectacular feat in engineering. The town is also a great place to start a coastal walk by joining the John Muir Way and following it through Dalmeny Estate and towards Cramond village.

Take a walk or cycle on the beachside paths. It’s ideal for a relaxing stroll and offers great views of Firth of Forth. Cramond Island is a tidal island about one mile (1.6 km) out to sea, which is connected to the mainland at low tide across the Drum Sands. A paved path, exposed at low water, allows easy access. This causeway runs at the foot of a row of concrete pylons on one side of the causeway. You can walk over the causeway to the island at low tide - do keep an eye on the tides though as it is possible to get stranded on the island!

One of my favourite buildings. The ceiling in the entrance hall maps all of the stars in the sky. Great place to learn about some of Scotland's history. Building itself is an architectural gem. Lots of modern portraits too and and a lovely cafe. For something a little unusual, make sure you stop off at the 'death masks.' It's not far from the train station or the airport bus. Lockers are available for storing bags, including very large lockers (for a wheelie bag).
