Don't miss this! Wira Mill, located 20 km north of Åkersberga, was one of Sweden's most important weapons forges during the time of great power. Today, Wira is a living working environment with smithies and cottages along the Wira River. Today, Wira Mill is an idyll with well-preserved forges and red cottages. But during the 17th century, the mill was one of Sweden's most important weapons forges. Among other things, swords that Charles XII's men used in the war were forged here.

Roslagen’s principal town is Norrtälje, an idyllic little town with authentic houses and a medieval road network. There are quaint shops and larger chains, restaurants and cafés, art galleries, museums and exciting events – all year round! Don’t miss the small specialist food shops offering local produce, the inspiring interior design shops and the cosy cafés. The town’s restaurants often feature live jazz and blues music. The whole town swings during Norrtälje’s Jazz Days in the summer. Norrtälje was founded in 1622 by Gustav II Adolf, but major sections of the town were burned down by the Russians in 1719. In the 1730s, the estate of Wallinska Gårdarna was built on Lilla Torget square and the Town Hall on Stora Torget square. In the mid-19th century, Norrtälje was one of the Baltic Sea’s most popular spa resorts – known for its healing mud. Join one of the guided walks to learn more. Visit Norrtälje’s excellent art gallery, and Pythagoras Industrial Museum including Children’s Pythagoras – a creative experience that the whole family will appreciate. A walk up Södra Bergen hill offers fabulous, sweeping views of the town. The Norrtälje river flows through the middle of town and teems with sea trout for fly-fishing. Stroll along the river to Societetsparken. Along the quay you’ll find the restaurant boat S/S Norrtelje. Follow the water via the Piren restaurant out to Kärleksudden with its bathing area and café. Norrtälje has hotels, cottages, camping, youth hostels open all year round and a guest harbour. Buses run regularly between Norrtälje and Stockholm.

Gamla Stan is an area of great contrast. It's Stockholm's oldest settlement with many historical buildings and attractions. But it's also an area known for gastronomic innovation and unique shopping. Gamla Stan, or Old Town, is as the name suggests Stockholm's oldest district. Located on an island in the middle of town, the first Stockholm settlement dates back to the middle ages. Most of the buildings are from the 16th and 17th centuries though. The narrow, winding cobblestone streets, with their buildings in different colors, give Gamla Stan its unique character. The area is, more often than not, referred to as a living museum. Västerlånggatan and Österlånggatan are the district’s main streets, but head off the beaten track to get the true feel of the island. There are several beautiful museums and attractions here, for example, the Royal Palace, The Stockholm Cathedral, The Medieval Museum, The Nobel Prize Museum, and The Royal Armoury. Befitting for Stockholm's oldest district, you'll also find several shops and restaurants steeped in history. Den Gyldene Freden, for example, has occupied the same location since 1722. Contrasting Gamla Stan's historical architecture is a vibrant restaurant and bar scene with many innovative chefs and bartenders setting up shop; Pharmarium, Corner Club, Djuret, Bistro Marie, and Kagges Sillkafé to name a few. You'll also find unique craft stores, shops, and galleries selling clothes, jewelry, pottery, and accessories.

Idyllic archipelago town with many well-preserved wooden houses from the turn of the last century painted in the archipelago’s typical delicate pastel tones. Vaxholm has numerous charming restaurants, cafés, and shops. And more adventurous travelers have a range of exciting activities to chose from like SUP and kayak paddling or fishing. Waxholm Hotel, with its great views of the fortress and harbor, is a classic choice for lunch or dinner, or, why not a Christmas Buffet. Vaxholm is easily accessible year-round, by Waxholmsbolagets boat traffic or by bus. If you take the bus, the trip is covered by Stockholm's public transport service.

The bath is located by the beautiful Drängsjön, which is located in the Domarudden nature area. Domarudden is partly a nature reserve. Here there is an inviting and child-friendly sandy beach, but also rocks and grass to lie on. The bath gives the feeling of a small forest lake, despite the relative proximity to the center of Åkersberga. At the parking lot is Domarudden's open-air garden, where you can eat or have a coffee. A well-equipped playground as well as a beach volleyball and soccer field are located adjacent to the open-air garden. Several exercise loops and trails start from here. At the start there is a simple outdoor gym. The Roslagsleden hiking trail also passes here Link to another website, opens in a new window.. There is also the possibility of fishing, fishing license required. From the outdoor garden, it is only a short walk down to the swimming area itself. There is a toilet house with two toilets, one of which is accessible. You will also find a popular lake sauna here. You pay the entrance fee in the restaurant. Wintertime you can go ice-skating here and if there is much snow they have tracks for cross-country-skiing here.

The Blue Trail is a hiking trail that offers 35 kilometers of hiking through fantastic and varied cultural landscapes. It also connects to the Roslagsleden if you want to change things up or extend your hike. The blue trail runs from the harbor in Vaxholm, via Bogesund in the beautiful Bogesund Country, to Domarudden in Österåker. Through a connecting trail of nine kilometers, the Blå leden is connected with the Roslagsleden at Löttinge in Täby. Some parts of the Blå leden, around Rydbo, cross private land and that section is not maintained by the municipality. Deforestation can take place here and the route can be more or less passable and potentially unsafe with fallen trees. There are also no markings on this stretch that the municipality is responsible for. Apart from this stretch, the trail is well marked with blue markings. A map of the Blå leden through Österåker municipality can be found in Österåkerkartan Link to another website, opens in a new window.. Select Layer "Experience & do" in the map and mark "Trails" to see the Blå leden and Roslagsleden. In the map, you can also choose to see, for example, exercise tracks, sports halls, swimming areas and riding trails in the municipality. You will also find a map of the Blue Trail in Naturkartan's website. Link to other website, opens in new window. The nature map is also available as an app.

Hacksta outdoor area is located between the buildings in central Åkersberga. Most conspicuous in the area is Hackstabacken. If you get to the top, you will be greeted by a nice view of the surroundings. Hacksta outdoor area is a green oasis with an easily accessible nature area where natural values, outdoor life and physical exercise coexist side by side. Nature The terrain in Hacksta is hilly and varied. Here there are beautiful forest edges with large oaks, open grassy fields, sparse heather forest, dense spruce forest and a lot of foliage including rough aspens. Woodpeckers can often be heard drumming in the distance. Deer are perhaps not so popular in the villa gardens and on the roads, but a family of deer at the edge of the forest on a misty morning at sunrise is a nice experience you have a great chance of getting here. Hacksta village There used to be three farms in Hacksta, today some of the buildings remain. Hacksta previously belonged, in different periods, to Smedby and Margretelund, respectively, which were the largest manors in the area. At the beginning of the 20th century, in addition to livestock farming, there were also large greenhouses here, and vegetables were sold on Östermalmstorg in Stockholm, among other things. Exercise tracks Hackstaspåren is right next to Österåker's sports center. It is perhaps the municipality's hilliest track. If you want a real challenge, you can also go up the old ski slope. In Hacksta there are exercise tracks of 850 metres, 1.3 kilometres, 2.5 kilometers and 5 kilometres. All tracks except the 5-kilometer track have electric lighting. There is an obstacle course along the 2.5 kilometer track. Barbecue areas The sausage or the chocolate never taste better than around a campfire together with good friends. A prepared barbecue area with a substantial wind protection can be found below Hackstabacken. At the edge of the meadow, along the electric light track about 500 m from Hackstastugan, a barbecue house is waiting. You bring your own firewood or charcoal here and of course you take all the rubbish home with you. Frisbee golf, orienteering and scouting Hacksta outdoor area is widely used by surrounding schools and several associations. On the open grassy areas, surrounded by a lot of beautiful oaks at the edge of the forest, is the Åkersberga Frisbee Club with its 18-hole disc golf course. Training is conducted here and competitions are arranged. Orienteering is also widely practiced in the area, both by schools and by the orienteering club OK Österåker, which has Hackstastugan as its clubhouse. Åkersberga Sportklubb, with its athletics and cross-country skiing sections, also often trains in the area. Österåker's scout corps has its scout cabin in the area and is often seen out in the terrain. Hiking and walking The entire Hacksta area is crossed by a variety of paths. It is never far from buildings so the risk of getting lost is non-existent. Walking along the marked exercise tracks is a good way to get to know the area. The tracks run in varied nature where there is much to see and discover, something that runners often miss. The tracks are usually hard and suitable for both prams and wheelchairs. Simple rest benches are placed at regular intervals. If you want to get a nice view of the surroundings, a trip to the top of Hackstabacken can be worthwhile. Don't forget that you are a guest in nature!
