Superb sushi ingredients in a modern atmosphere with friendly staff and unique sake cocktails. We highly recommend the Fluke Roll. If you are going with a group, it's probably wise to make a reservation or to call ahead to see if they have room for walk-ins that night. If you're going alone or as a pair, there is often seating at the bar, even when tables are full.

Atmospheric beer garden with good food trucks, local beer, coffee, drinks, great patio, people watching. It is in the same area as Crux Climbing Gym, so it's also a great pit stop after climbing if that's your thing. The Leroy and Lewis is a great new school BBQ truck combining delicious classics (like brisket, sausage, and barbacoa) with side options like kimchi and kale caesars. It's one of our faves in the city. Their cauliflower burnt ends are also a great substitute for meat on any of their BBQ plates if you have a vegetarian in the group.

Excellent Italian farm to table food truck in an awesome garden/patio setting. Best Italian food in town. They make their own pasta, have veggie and meat options, and you literally can't go wrong with anything on the menu. In the same patio/garden as Butterfly Bar and Vortex Community Theater.

Great coffee + beer + cocktail garden with Taco, Thai, BBQ food trucks. Our favorite is DeeDee's (the northern Thai food truck run by a husband and wife team). Be aware that it's all spicy! Trivia night on Wednesday. Live music other days.

Excellent local brewery with a large outdoor space and a variety of food trucks. Great for a big group and/or kids (there is a play structure area towards the back). They also have great brewery swag (their t-shirts and hats are always awesome). The new school BBQ food truck (Distant Relatives) is one of our favorites in the city. Everything there is delicious, but we are partial to the sandwiches (they just combine such great ingredients in one handful!) and have also tried every side on offer and have never been disappointed.

Beautiful little shaded oasis for wine and food lovers. Food trucks, stick and poke tattoo parlor, wine store featuring lots of natural wine. Super cool yard and seating area. The businesses are a combo of food trucks and repurposed houses along 12th street. We love the Film N' Viet food truck (the wings are bomb) and also never get mad at pairing it with a bottle of wine from Cork & Screw. They give great recommendations if you are overwhelmed by the selection.

As featured on the Austin season of Queer Eye. Mochi donuts are delicious and on the weekends they have soft serve ice cream in delicious mochi fish-shaped cones (taiyaki). Really cool bike shop next door called pedal pushers as well. If you are into biking, there is a nice 10 mile trail nearby that they can point you to, and also gear you up for.

INCREDIBLE, and we do mean incredible, not-your-mama's empanadas in a lovely food park. Veracruz all natural and Kerlaches also have trucks here if you have a group to please. Fruta freeze also serves up great raspados (a shaved ice and fruit dessert) and Desnudo Coffee serves up brews if you need a caffeine boost.

Guyanese food (think Caribbean) that is truly spectacular. Get the Roti. Get the Smoked Avocado Escabeche. Get the Wild Boar Pepper Pot. Bring a lot of friends so you can try everything you can.

Intense and flavorful food (our favorite) inspired by Goa, India, Portugal, and Texas. If you're feeling nervous check out their happy hour to dip your toe in -- this is one of the few places that has it Wednesday through SUNDAY so you can get your weekend dining on with a discount.

No-frills taco joint that has been slowly expanding over the years (started as a food truck, then a strip mall, and now a stand alone place of their own that includes a truck in the parking lot as well). Giant aguas frescas, delicious greasy and authentic tacos. Like the name implies, the al pastor is a winner.

In our opinion, the best mezcal bar in Austin. Aren't familiar with mezcal? Think sort of like tequila, but smokier and punchier. They serve it straight up as well as in a variety of cocktails. And like the best Austin places, also has a nice outdoor area with food trucks to help you build a base for more mezcal.

Easily accessible entrance to the greenbelt that is popular for rock climbers. Nice for nature walking. For climbers, the trail from the parking lot will dead end into the creek bed (which might have water or might be dry depending on time of year). Cross the creek bed and the wall directly in front of you is climbing. You will see the anchors and bolts. For nature walkers, the left will take you to an area called Beehives, with beautiful pocketed limestone that is classic Austin geology. The right will take you along the creaked and up into some mountain biking trails if you so choose. There is also a hidden, creepy, art exhibit among some white trees. Worth a hunt if you're into that stuff. Austin Chronicle online also has a good guide to all the Greenbelt entrances if you are trying to pick the best one.

Great place to see Austin's bat colony between early March and late October (depending on the year). The colony is estimated to include 1.5 million Mexican free-tail bats, thought to be the largest urban bat colony in the world. We think the best view is from down low rather than on the bridge itself, with a preference for being on the water in a kayak or boat. Really though, any view is good.

Gorgeous spring-fed municipal pool that is an Austin staple. The pool is 68 degrees year round, which is somehow less jarring when the weather is cold. (If you don't believe us, we dare you to try it.) During the summer, "night swim" is free from 9pm-10pm and is a blast. You will likely hear many locals howling at the moon if you go.

It’s a really great example of the natural beauty Texas has to offer. With the right water flow and temperature, it can be a great swimming experience at each of the pools at two of the short waterfalls. None the less, great walking and hiking through the park. Walk along the creek or any of the established trails. Walk in the creek if you’re up for an adventure or some fishing. Family friendly.
