Great espresso drinks and pastries. Sit outside of Toby's barn and meet the locals! Toby's store is a nice place for local gifts, dry food items and occasionally art, as they have a gallery in the back. And next to the café window, you'll see the barn feed store!

I you go out for brunch at Nicassio, make sure to stop by the Cheese Company and get fresh eggs (you can see the very chickens, producers of those freshest eggs, to the right on the fields from the road as you drive by the reservoir!) The cheese they make is famous and you can sometimes get a taste. This is the place to come in the fall, they have a lovely pumpkin patch.

The visitor center building has a nice small museum about the local fauna and flora, a great option for when it's too cold or rainy. This is the starting place to many the hiking trails of this beautiful area! Also, note then damage of the Woodward fire right next to the visitor center, going all the way to Limantour road up the mountain. As you drive out to the lighthouse, you'll see several access roads to to the right and left (Drakes Estero) , for a few parking areas with restrooms. I highly recommend "North Beach" access. You'll se the full force of the pacific. And after you get away from the surroundings of the parking lot, you'll have a long, long empty beach just to yourself and the birds and occasional elephant seal, for a great hike! My favorite place. Bring jackets, hats, sunscreen, sunglasses and a picnic! Don't go near wildlife, EVER, and check the Park's restriction to certain beaches due to seal puppings at certain times of the year. You can search for "point reyes national sea shore Map" to get the seasonal notices of where you're allowed to go.

Very close to Inverness, Chicken Ranch Beach is a great place to spend 1/2 a day, sit on the shore of Tomales Bay for a pic-nick or launch a kayak. The park system provides free Personal Flotation Devices for kids and adults that want to venture out on to the bay. Dogs will be kept on a leash. And the locals will come for a stroll at dusk and say hi.

A short from from Inverness, has a good shady parking area, then the short trail takes you to Shell Beach, a magical spot, usually more protected from the wind and very sunny. Bring a blanket to sit on the sand and a picnic, you can swim on the bay or walk further along the shore to Shell Beach 2.

This is a great hike, where you'll be waaay above the water, and will be able to see the Pacific Ocean on one side of this peninsula, and Drakes Bay on the other side. Bring a picnic, sunscreen and a wind breaker/jacket (the wind can be fierce!) And during the spring, you may be able to glance at (and hear!) the colonies of Elephant Seals down below on the beach. Check with the National Park for information.

At Drakes Beach, you can see the elephant seals up close!! Drakes, in addition to Año Nuevo State Park, is one of my favorite places to visit in winter. It is one of the few spots in North America where you can see these massive animals who have made a remarkable recovery from the brink of extinction. They can be seen at the park year-round, but December through March is when they come ashore to mate, give birth and nurse their young.

What to bring

Inverness sits on the Pacific Plate (not part of the North American Plate!) We are located in a peninsula that cantilevers into the Pacific Ocean, west of the great San Andreas Fault (which is Tomales Bay) It's generally colder and windier here than the rest of Marin County or the Bay Area. So my advice: bring extra layers, even in the summer. Bring your fleece, wind breakers and scarves, bring a hat for warmth and a hat for the sun, and also sunscreen! Hiking boots and an extra pair of soft socks are always great to have. Then you can go on an adventure and you'll be comfortable!
Frases útiles

"You'll have to go over the hill"
