Must Visit

Parthenonas ('Parthenopolis' in ancient times) has no relation to the famous monument in Athens. However, it abosilutely worths a visit! It is a traditional settlement with listed buildings, great taverns and breath-taking views! An ideal time for visit would be during dusk as you will witness the ridiculously picturesque sunset. 'Paul's Tavern' is a good option should you be feeling hungry.

Small, picturesque village-port at the southern tip of Sithonia penninsula. You can find good food options there (especially if you are after fresh fish), do some shopping and enjoy the local beach! Be aware! The water gets suddenly very deep as the gulf is known to be THE most deep natural harbour in the whole Halkidiki (and arguably in northern Greece). Ideal destination for those who love scuba diving. For those who love hiking, there is a path that starts from Toroni's ancient site (Likithos) that leads up to the position of the WWII cannons (placed by the Nazis to control the area). The view is magnificent and the hike's duration is approx. 50'-60'. Make sure you have plenty of water with you, hats and sunscreen!

One of Sithonia's largest villages, Agios Nikolaos is, along with Nikiti (upper town) and Parthenonas, the only few traditional settlements you can visit. The central square is the focal point of the village's life with several restaurants and live music events taking place on a regular basis during summertime. Walk among the villages cobblestoned alleways and enjoy the relaxing, vintage ambiance of Agios Nikolaos. The village has the only health center (part of Greek NHS) in the area of Sithonia.

Shopping, beaches and outdoor activities

Within the Domaine (famous for its wines and vineyards) you can find a casino, bars, restaurants, shopping malls as well as golf courses, water sports and more. Fees apply. Also amazing are the small beaches, within the premises, that spread out southwards. They are known as 'Limanakia' (small ports). The land's private but it worths a visit! Be respectful to nature whatsoever!

A great family-run business, specialised in locally produced food products like honey, teas, coffee, herbs, oils and more! Furthermore, Miss Olive offers a beautiful selection of gift boxes-ideal for presents and/or souvenirs! Make sure you try the hand-made baclava (and other traditional pastries) from Deniz himself!

For mountain and hiking enthusiasts, Sithonia offers a variety of hiking trails along the peninsula. Neos Marmaras and the nearby village of Parthenonas can be good starting points as they are some of the mountain's main access points. Make sure you visit the picnic park of Askamnia, the Fire House, the location of 'Itamos' with the centenarian tree of the same name, the hidden little church of St. Ilias and other locations of great beauty dispersed along the verdant slopes of Itamos (Dragoudeli) mountain. The roads - especially the main ones - are of good condition, accessible to all vehicles and with relatively good signage. There are, however, side dirt roads that are accessible only to 4X4s or bicycles.

BARbatolis is one of the area's little gems! A small tavern located at Aretes beach, it offers various meze plates and local tsipouro while being literally two steps from the marvellous, crystal clean sea of Aretes beach. Ideal for a long-afternoon chill! The business is close to Ethnik Beach bar.
