Operated by water and gravity the skill of the brakeman ensures a smooth passage up and down the steep cliff, and saves you the 173 steps! It is like stepping back in history to a bygone age. The appropriately attired operators are only too willing to explain the fascinating Victorian engineering and make this an experience, rather than just a journey!
