Experience the water powered funicular tramway, built in 1884, it connects the Victorian Town of Saltburn-by-the Sea with the promenade, pier and beach 211 feet below. Operated by water and gravity the skill of the brakeman ensures a smooth passage up and down the steep cliff, and saves you the 173 steps! It is like stepping back in history to a bygone age. The appropriately attired operators are only too willing to explain the fascinating Victorian engineering and make this an experience, rather than just a journey!
