Sightseeing

This is our village's jewel, the 400 year old Venetian & Turkish stone bridge! You can glimpse it from the back yard of the house. Just go to the main road towards the church, and as soon as you see a big sign with a bridge drawing on your left, take the path down. You will see the bridge soon after!

If you make a trip to chania town (approx 40 min away), take a walk in the old Venetian town that is located near the old port of chania. You will see colourful 2-story houses that combine Italian architecture with Ottoman elements. You can even see an old orthodox church which used to be a mosk - it still has a minaret!

Beaches

This is one of the most visited beaches in Crete. And for a good reason! This lagoon with shallow water and pink sand is magical! However, beware that the place is very touristic and extremely crowded in July & August. Approximately an hour away. In case you need a more private beach, check out Kedrodasos - you need to do a bit of walking downhill to get to the beach, but it is sure worth it.

Balos is a beautiful lagoon with shallow waters and golden sand. To get there by car you need to take a dirt road near Kisamos, and drive for approx 40 minutes (not recommended if you have a small city car). There are also ferries that you can take to visit Balos which also make a small stop to Gramboussa island. tip: the cruises are pretty expensive, I recommend driving to the beach! And a fair warning, in July and August this beautiful beach is pretty crowded.

One of my personal favourites, these beach is approximately 20 min away by car. Crystal clear water and ideal for scuba diving. Falasarna has 3 beaches, out of which I recommend the farthest and less touristic ones. One of them is the "falasarna small beach" as us locals call it, which is less crowded and also ideal for children. The "big beach" is the most famous one, however, if you are not into beach bars with music and tons of people, I would not suggest to go there.

Less touristic and secluded, Sfinari is ideal if you enjoy rocky beaches and a wild scenery. Famous for the local fish taverns, you can enjoy fresh fish gazing the west coast of Crete.

This is an organized beach where locals go. Pretty nice although not the greatest around here (compared to Elafonisi or Falasarna). Ideal for children if there are no waves (don't go there is the wind is blowing from north) and a place where you can enjoy a shade and a coffee under the umbrellas, as well as a bite in the variety of restaurants nearby. Only 10 min away!

This is the nearest beach. Not as crowded as other places, you can sit under an umbrella or isolate your self away from the beach bar. The beach is sandy with some pebbles. After the sun has set, you can enjoy a relaxed beer in the Mithimna camping bar.

If you really want to have an "into the wild experience" you should surely visit Choni. It has more than 5 beaches that are rocky and wild, with only few people around. In order to discover them all, let me know and I can tell you the whereabouts as well as the recommended 1 hour hike along the coastline ;).

If you are up for a long drive, this pebbly beach with crystal clear cold water is a beautiful getaway on the south coast of Chania. Around an hour's drive. It is located near cosmic Paleochora where you can find plenty restaurants and cafes. Personal favourite: "Old school" restaurant in Anidri village. Cretan cuisine with a twist & beautiful view. Just be sure to make a reservation as it is always full!
