Consejos para la ciudad

Cómo moverse

About that dirt road

The house is down a long passable dirt road. Expect it to be about 3 miles. Speed limit is 10mph (people do go a bit faster). It’s well maintained by the HOA and businesses that use the road. During rainy weather you may come across sizable pot holes.

Don’t forget groceries

Given how remote the camp is - we always bring in our groceries and essentials. Sometimes we’ll pack the car with a full load of groceries from home and sometimes we’ll order grocery pick up from the Walmart in Brewer or Target in Bangor. The nearest grocery store is about 30 minutes. See local grocery options in the guidebook.

Lots of kid items available

We have three kids of our own so the house is full of all the comforts you need for young kids. The list includes - portable crib w/ sheet, toddler bed rail, high chair, books and toys, foldable bath tub, outdoor chairs, sand toys, life vests (required for any boat outing), and dinnerware/cups/silverware. Please let us know if you can think of any additional items we should add

Reusable grocery bags

The state of Maine instituted a grocery bag tax. If you need a bag at a store they will charge a small fee. You are encouraged to bring your own bag (even for take out or small orders). There are a couple extra bags stored in the drawer by the stove. Please return them when you are done using them.

Everybody runs on Dunkin

If you’re like us - coffee is a must. The nearest Dunkin Donuts are in Brewer (Family Market) or Ellsworth (State St). It’s about 1 hour round trip to either. Worth it for us some days. Consider buying a box of Joe to keep in the fridge if you don’t want to make the trip daily. Or bring your own coffee supplies and use our percolator.
