Yummy Mexican food. The original Fonda (now a chain), this is a good spot for a burrito or a salad, plus they do a great Horchata (with or without alcohol).

My favourite local cafe, a great spot with friendly staff and cheap and cheerful food, not too big or fancy. Excellent coffee.

Only discovered this place recently, but they have great beers on tap (including a sour!) and a really great vegetable burger!

This is on Bridge, so a walk up the hill, but it's a lovely bar that specialises in gin and I'd recommend it for anyone who wants a cocktail and a chat.

Neighbourhoods

Head down towards the river and enjoy Cremorne, which is a little suburb that's kind of inside Richmond. There are tech companies dotted through here, as well as nice cafes, some of Melbourne's oldest workers' cottages and there are even some cheeky local foxes. Under the bridge you can even find Burnley Bouldering wall, if you fancy rock climbing outside for free! If you make it to the river it is quite a peaceful and beautiful spot, but also a cycling highway at commuting times, so be mindful that it's a shared path.

Richmond is a really big suburb, and has different precincts. Cremorne, which is closer to the river, is urban and quiet, Swan St is busy and bustling, especially for sports fans and young people, Bridge Road is quiet but has some nice restaurants and a farmers market on Saturday, and Victoria St is the Vietnamese precinct with lots of yummy Vietnamese food and some excellent pubs. Richmond is also an area with a rich history and there are lots of nice surprises around!

Collingwood is the coolest neighbourhood in Melbourne in my opinion! The heart of Melbourne's street art scene, and also great eating and drinking options. The quintessential homeland of the classic Melbourne hipster!

A really awesome wine store. Beer too. Great if you want to try local wine or beer, which Victoria is quite famous for! There's imported stuff too, but I'd recommend the locals :)

Consejos para la ciudad

Cómo moverse

If you want to use public transport you'll need a Myki

Melbourne's trains, trams and buses all use a card system. You can't buy paper tickets at all, so to use these services you'll need a Myki. I have provided you with one or two depending on how many people are staying, but I'd recommend either registering it online (https://www.ptv.vic.gov.au/mykitopup/) or heading to a newsagent, train station or city tram stop to put some money on it so you can travel around. You should tap on when you board and tap off when you disembark to get the cheapest fair, and the city has a free tram zone where you don't need to tap the card at all.

Melbourne weather can be a little unpredictable

They say we have "four seasons in one day" and that's not a lie! Today it's summertime but I'm wearing a leather jacket - last week I rode my bike in a crop top because it was too hot for clothes. Be prepared for almost anything - rain, hail or shine. ]You should bring and wear sunscreen all year round - it's quite easy to get sunburned.
