One of my favorite restaurants is Caravan of Dreams, a few blocks away on 7th Street between Avenue A and 1st Avenue. It's a nice vegan restaurant that prepares healthy, tasty and artistic creations. The great thing about the East Village though is that everything is fantastically good and unique, so you can just take a walk exploring and you really can't go wrong. The L train is at 14th Street and 1st Avenue, the 6 train is at Astor Place, and the F train is at Houston and 2nd Ave. They will all connect to all other lines you need for the various tourist attractions. Strolling around the beautiful Central Park is a must. The Moma, Guggenheim and Metropolitan museums have incredible artwork to enjoy. Seeing a Broadway show is of course a highlight, and at Times Square you can buy discounted tickets for Broadway shows on the same day of the show. If you like comedy, I recommend catching a show at the famous Upright Citizens Brigade or going to a famous stand up comedy club like Gotham or the Comedy Cellar where you might just catch big celebrities like Seinfeld. The Lower East side (everything south of Houston) is very hip for the alternative, local music scene and also fun bars and great restaurants. In the West Village you have nicer, more reputable establishments like the famous Blue Note jazz club and more upscale bars and restaurants. You can take a ferry to the Statue of Liberty or just see it from the southern tip of Manhattan by taking the subway down to stops South Ferry or Bowling Green. Using the L or F trains, you can also visit Brooklyn which is fun, hip and beautiful. Williamsburg is the famous young hipster crowd, the Brooklyn Bridge, Prospect Park and the surrounding neighborhoods are beautiful and have great restaurants and cafes too.
The East Village is full of incredible bars, restaurants, cafes, shopping, art, events and fun surprises! It’s lively, exciting, while also being safe and family friendly.
