Start your trip with a free walking tour in Freiburg to ensure you see all of the major sights and historic landmarks. One of Freiburg’s top attractions is the Freiburger Münster cathedral. Be sure to walk inside to see the stained glass windows, which are absolutely spectacular. The first window on the left has a pretzel in it. That’s how much Germans love brezels (soft pretzels)! The walking tour stays within the Old Town of Freiburg. In addition to the cathedral, the tour stops at other historic landmarks and buildings, such as Martinstor (the old city gates), Augstinerplatz (the main square) and City Hall.

There is a steep hill/park, Schlossberg, in the middle of the city center that offers amazing views of Freiburg and the Black Forest in the distance. There are several benches at the top, which makes it a nice place to relax, read a book, hang out with a friend, etc.Following the short hike, grab a beer at Kastaniengarten, the beer garden that sits at the top. It feels like drinking in the clouds. It reminded me of drinking a beer in the Letna Beer Garden, which is my top recommendation for visiting Prague. An afternoon spent in a beer garden may be one of the best things to do in Freiburg – or any city!

Freiburg sits right on the edge of the Black Forest. Leave the city for a day to explore or hike in the Black Forest, or consider taking an organized tour. The Black Forest is home of the infamous cuckoo clocks. You may also consider a day trip to Baden-Baden, which is well-known as a bath and spa town. If you are looking to check another country off your list, pop into nearby Colmar, France, or even Basel, Switzerland. Both are easy day trips from Freiburg.

With 38 hectares, the Mundenhof is the largest animal enclosure in Baden-Württemberg. The spacious paddocks are home to domestic and farm animal breeds from all over the world, and the farm inn with beer garden and playground is located in the heart of the Mundenhof. Here you will be spoiled with delicious, homemade delicacies. A conscious renunciation of the spectacular, a return to the simple and the obvious - that was the basic idea on which today's concept of the pet garden was consistently implemented so that you can relax quietly. Its just 10 Min from our home

The Kaiserstuhl is a low mountain range of volcanic origin. Due to its special location, in the so-called rain shadow of the Vosges mountains, adjacent to the Rhine valley and surrounded by the Black Forest on the eastern side, the Kaiserstuhl is one of the warmest regions in Germany. The Kaiserstuhl region is especially known for the outstanding South Baden gastronomy, the excellent wine, the mild Mediterranean summer climate, the diverse flora and fauna as well as the many hiking, cycling and recreational opportunities.

The largest lake in the Black Forest is only a short train ride away from Freiburg. The clear lake invites you to swim and go for a walk. If you still haven't had enough, you can enjoy an 18 km long hike (that's how far it is if you want to walk around the lake completely). So pack your rucksack and off to the Schluchsee!

the Dietenbach lake is the next bigger lake in our vicinity. It is beautifully situated in a park where you can play volleyball, skateboard or practice some great jumps with your mountain bike. There are many places to sit down so that you can stay here or go for a short 20 min walk.

Within the Old Town, check out Freiburg’s indoor food market, Markthalle. It’s the place to go to sample different international cuisines. I always enjoy walking around a food market when exploring a new city. If you’re looking for other great markets in Europe, check out Barcelona’s food market, Amsterdam’s indoor food hall and Lisbon’s TimeOut Market.

drinking beer in Germany doesn’t count as drinking! So, you should spend an afternoon with a beer (or two or three) outdoors in a Freiburg beer garden. In addition to Kastaniengarten (in Schlossberg), check out the city’s oldest beer garden – Hausbrauerei Feierling Biergarten. Pick any table, and turn strangers into new friends. Bonus points – they serve food! If you’re staying outside the city center, check out Ganter-Biergarten. It may be conveniently located to your accommodations. Prost!

Surrounded by woods, you are far away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and the city in the thermal bath. Lean back, immerse yourself in the thermal water and let your gaze glide through the trees and bushes. You will be amazed at what a few hours in Freiburg's thermal baths can do. The thermal water has been gushing out of the spring for over 40 years. Whether in the 34°C hot adventure pool with massage jets, in the outdoor area, in the swimmer's pool or in the 38°C hot spring pool - we are big fans

Who doesn't know it, the picture of the eleven New York workers spending their lunch break at a dizzying height on a steel girder? Crossing the Wiwilí Bridge, I immediately feel reminded of it. Young Freiburgers have made themselves comfortable on the blue metal arches of the bridge. They chat, listen to music and enjoy the sunset dangling feet." Since the crossing between the Stühlinger district and the old town was closed to cars in 1980, the Wiwilíbrücke has become a popular meeting place and is one of the most important connections from Freiburg's west to the city center for pedestrians as well as cyclists. On average, almost 8,000 people a day cycle over the iron truss bridge built at the end of the 19th century. It is one of the last preserved bridges of its kind in Germany and particularly catches the eye with its elegantly curved arches and blue color. So if you want to experience the favorite place of many young Freiburgers for once, grab a bike, e.g. at the bike station, ride from the train station towards Jazzhaus and make a short stop on the bridge. Enjoy the view of the towers of the Sacred Heart Church and the Schönberg. The Christmas lights are also particularly pretty to look at, when thousands of little lights bathe the Wiwilí Bridge in warm light.
