Food Scene

You'd have to get here practically at dawn to beat the crowd, but mid-week around 8-10, you can usually find a spot in line with lots of goodies still available. My favorite is "One To GO" (a great deal at $2.95) is a baked egg and cheese casserole with mild green chilis served hot on our house-made cheddar cheese scone. But no shortage of scones, brownies, cakes ––all baked that morning. $

It's probably accurate to say that in recent years, Nashville has become a "food town" –– but "Margot" –– opened in 2001 –– continues to excel. Located in "Five Points," Chef Margot and her staff create dishes that are uniquely delectable. Menu changes daily. Sunday brunch, closed Monday. $$$

My favorite all-round, deeply satisfying selections from a menu that is varied, clever, somehow meets pretty much any food craving I have and is beyond scrumptious. Owned by "Cafe Margot" Chef Margot McCormack –– who has clearly applied her to deft touch to an amazing menu. Heavy crowds on weekends. Sunday 9AM to 4PM, Mon-Thur 8AM to 3PM and Friday and Saturday 8AM to 4PM. $$

The best of the best Mexican food in all of Nashville, possibly including neighboring states. Tacos, soups, elote and a few more items. Small place, meal times you'll be standing in line but it's totally worth the wait. Some days they have tamales. Bar. Funky. Cash only. Almost always open but hours do seem to vary. IMO, five-stars for the best burgers in Nashville and the most entertaining dining experience. There's a very quaint bowling alley! A kinda Nevada style swimming pool! Outdoor dining! Indoor dining! Located in "old Nashville's" transit warehouse. Hip, yes. Too hip? Never. $$

This is some of the best pizza I've ever had. And the best service for a pizza place. And there's even a grab-a-slice or two section next door. Without exception, this is the best sushi I have ever had in Nashville. This is some of the best fried calamari I've had anywhere, ever. Possibly too hip for some people, but I have to say I love this place. I especially love the interior design. Their website says it all: "Barista Parlor was established in 2011. Nashville's bus system is continually being improved. But what makes it convenient for The Cottage's guests is that its neighborhood stop is at the corner of 16th and Fatherland St, across the street. This is the Number 4 line and it will take you into downtown Nashville. Map and schedule for the Number 4 line will be sent along with other guest material one week before you arrive. Local & Express Service is $1.70 and an all-day pass is a mere $3.25. Hop a ride, save some money, see things you might never see otherwise. It's a great way to travel.
