Historic shrine and site of the famous Battle of the Alamo. Located the heart of downtown and the reason San Antonio is also known as the Alamo city. Please remember that the Alamo was never completed and what you are visiting is the ruins of what was to be a mission had it not been destroyed by Santa Ana's army during the battle of the Alamo. These ruins are considered a shrine because of the men who willingly fought and died for independence on its hallowed grounds.
