Doug is a dear friend and we are fortunate to have a number of his paintings and his Coffee Table Book on display at the LakeHouse! He paints primarily in acrylic, attempting to depict various atmospherics caused by light interacting with water in all forms. His paintings are also personal, metaphoric expressions of light filled with hope.

Dark Sky Viewing Area is located at 7980 County Rd 41, 11km south of Kaladar. The Lennox and Addington County Dark Sky Viewing Area is the most southerly point in Ontario where the night sky is still pristine, offering a night sky experience similar to what was available more than 100 years ago. The site includes a large concrete pad for camera or telescope setup or placement of lawn chairs for general stargazing. Wheelchair accessible. Free Laser-Guided Tours are great for novice star gazers, held Friday and Saturday nights near the new moon; and monthly Astrophotographer Assemble events geared toward night sky photographers are also scheduled. To reserve a space for these special events, check out the website or FB page where you will also be notified if there are cancellations due to weather. The area is open from dusk to dawn and no reservations are required. Bring binoculars or a telescope if you have one. A reclining lawn chair along with a blanket are ideal accessories. It is really dark, so bring a small dim flashlight. Open all year.

Biking Trails

The trails from Tweed to Sharbot Lake (and beyond) need at least a gravel bike. The K&P trail though is excellent; not paved but very smooth and suitable for a road bike (might as well be paved.) Clarendon Station can be taken all the way to Syndenham (some rough patches just south of Sharbot Lake). From Sharbot to Clarendon station and back is 30 km. Search up frontenaccounty .ca /vthingstodov/vkp-trail.aspx Here's another recommendation, going the other direction ... Kaladar to Arden on the trail - and on the trail through Sharbot Lake and up north from there.
