Approximately a 1 minute walk from the apartment, this award-winning fine-dining restaurant is mentioned in the Michelin Guide: "A homely, split-level restaurant set down a narrow town centre backstreet. The seasonally evolving menu is made up of classically based, French-influenced dishes, which are carefully prepared and rely on fresh, local produce."

Little coves and secret beaches

The closest beach is the petite and pebbly Beacon Cove, just a 5 minute walk away. This small but sheltered sun-trap of a cove is perfect for a picnic, paddle or just watching the local wildlife, or even the view across Torbay to Brixham. This cove was historically the "Ladies' Bathing Beach", decorously separated from the "Gentlemen's Bathing Beach" just along the coast path at Peaked Tor Cove. This was a favourite bathing spot for Agatha Christie.

For more of a sandy beach, a 15-20 minute meander past the harbour and marina takes you to Torre Abbey Sands. Although a little way from the town centre, there is a broad range of cafes, restaurants and bars (all with a fabulous view) close at hand. In the summer season you will find watersports equipment hire e.g. SUPs here too.

Fascinating museum and 13th century tithe barn (which is the only surviving Spanish Armada prison in the country). The cafe is good too, and the nearby formal gardens are well worth a look year-round.

City/town information

On the opposite side of Tor Bay lies Brixham. It's a half-hour drive from Torquay, or alternatively catch the ferry straight across the bay (if you're lucky, you may even get to see some of the Bay's resident sea life - we've seen dolphins here before!). If you like seafood, Brixham is THE place to go for fantastically fresh fish. It's also home to the beautiful Shoalstone Pool - one of very few remaining Victorian seawater swimming baths in the UK. You can also visit the stunning Golden Hind - the full-size replica of Sir Francis Drake's tudor galleon.

This National Trust gem was Agatha Christie's beloved holiday home. Nestled in beautiful woodland with stunning views over the river Dart, this is well worth a visit. From here you can catch the foot ferry to the charming village of Dittisham (and the charming Ferry Boat Inn) or to historic Dartmouth (and its excellent selection of independent shops).

With glorious views out over the bay, or just enjoying a spot of choosing your favourite fantasy superyacht, the Marina is certainly worth a visit. Ask here about chartering a boat for a spot of mackerel fishing!

Don't forget some comfortable shoes!

Torquay is known for its hilly geography, so if you're planning to walk to explore the area, we'd definitely recommend some comfy shoes! That said, there are some lovely flat walks available to you e.g. from the harbourside to Torre Abbey Sands.
