We have created this guide to help you get to know our city and enjoy it as much as we do! 1. Guide to know our city through its culture: o Museo de Arte Moderno (MAMM): local and latinoamerican contemporary artist. Here you can experiment with music, cinema in multiple workshops and laboratories. o Museo de Antioquia: It houses a large collection of works by Medellín native Fernando Botero and Pedro Nel Gómez. It was the first museum established in the Antioquia Department and the second in Colombia. The museum is located in the center of Medellín on the Botero Plaza near the Berrío Park metro station. o Museo casa de la Memoria: created in 2006, the idea is to show and recognize the armed conflict in Colombia. o Museo El Castillo: Constructed in 1930, this museum has the oldest antiques. The style is medieval gothic and to date, is the museum with most decorative antiques. o Casa Gardeliana: this is a small house that honors tango and most of all, Carlos Gardel. In 2002 it became cultural patrimony in Medellín. o Inflexion Memorial Park: is a public park that is implanted in the lot of the old Monaco Building, an icon of pain and violence, former property of the drug trafficker Pablo Escobar. This new public space that is given to the city as a result of an international public architecture competition, commemorates through a memorial the victims of the narco-terrorism that occurred in the city in a period from 1983 to 1994. o Comuna 13: Also known as San Javier, a comuna affected by heartbreaking account of violence and strife. However in the last few years, it has transformed into a place of optimisim, it has become a place known for its graffiti, street art performances and walking tours. o El Poblado: most well-known neighborhood, and most visited by locals and foreigners. It is known for the ample offer of the best restaurants, bars, dance clubs, and shopping. El Parque Lleras, in el Poblado is the heart of the nightlife in Medellín. Also located in El Poblado: - El Tesoro Shopping Mall - Oviedo Shopping Mall - Santa Fe Shopping Mall - Mercado del Rio 2. Weekend trips outside of the city: A. El Peñol de Guatapé: Also known as The Stone of El Peñol, towers up to 200 meters (656 feet) above its base. Visitors can scale the rock via a staircase with 649 steps built into one side. It’s ocated on the shores of the Embalse Guatapé (dam). From the rock you can see the 25 sq miles of lakes made by the Guatape Dam. The dam was constructed in the 1970s as part of a large hydroelectric complex to supply electricity to Medellin. • You can stay in: Luxé by The Charlee or Boato • You can do water activities at the resorts or the town’s shore B. Santa Fé de Antioquia: Colonial village 2 hours away from Medellín. You can enjoy the village’s architecture and tours multiple coffee farms. o You can stay at Al Alma Hotel o They offer all kind of tours available in the village 5. Food and Grocery Delivery For a more enjoyable stay, you can always order food. In Medellín it’s very common to look up any restaurant on Instagram and then reach out through Whatsapp to either order or make a reservation.
