Neighborhoods

Welcome to Buechel! In the 1790s, George Hikes, a Revolutionary War veteran, settled and started to develop the area know known as Buechel. John Buechel settled here nearly 100 years later and after he opened a post office and tavern, the area became synonymous with the Buechel name. The nearby Bashford Manor, built in 1874, was home to three Kentucky Derby winners. The Buechel Railroad and train depot is just a few blocks away, and used to be one of Louisvilles main train stops. Buechel is nestled two of Louisvilles main highways (264 and 64) and main throughways so getting around the city from here is a breeze. Buechel has more international restaurants in a few blocks than most places I've seen. We have enjoyed getting to eat food from around the world and make new friends while were at it!

"The Highlands" as its known, is the neighborhood just up Bardstown road from our place. A great street to walk down and enjoy local shops, or pick one of the many great eateries. Saturday mornings the Douglass Loop and Bardstown Rd. Farmers Market are full of tasty treats, and a good way to experience the area like a local.
