City/town information
Ouray is just beyond Silverton to the north and accessed by crossing over Red Mountain Pass via the "Million Dollar Highway". Many travelers believe that the highway was named after the million dollar views or becuase you need a $1M insurance policy to drive over it, but legend has it cost a million dollars per mile to build in the 1920s, and that its fill dirt contains a million dollars in gold ore.
