“For those who like museums, Roanoke's art museums reflect a rich culture. Taubman is a work of art in the building itself as well as having changing exhibits that are thought provoking and amazing. In addition to the Taubman, Center in the Square Museums is downtown and includes: African American Culture Museum, a History of Western Virginia, Roanoke Pinball Museum, and Science Museum of Western Virginia. Visit Eleanor D Wilson at Hollins University or Olin Hall Galleries at Roanoke College for special exhibits and permanent collections. Include a stop at Salem Museum for additional history about the area. ”

“Although Jefferson's place outside of Charlottesville (Monticello) garners more visitors and more recognition, his place in Forest (more-or-less a suburb of Lynchburg) is quite impressive and is simply a gorgeous piece of property with history, architecture, along with flora and fauna. Highly recommended on a nice spring or fall day when it's pleasant to roam about outdoors.”

“Point of Honor is more or less The Tourist Destination in Lynchburg with organized tours daily and an impressive history. The property and "restored" (not "renovated", but kept in its original grandeur). I'll not blah, blah, blah, but the "Honor" of this point goes back to dueling and the grounds are gorgeous. And...Very Close to Downtown (across the Rivermont bridge).”

“Roanoke began as a railroad town, now all grown up. There is much history in the Transportation Museum and the O. Winston Link Museum. See history with trains and automobiles at the Transportation Museum. O. Winston Link (1914-2001) was one of America's most exceptional photographic artists; he memorialized the steam era. O. Winston Link created the story of trains passing in the night and photos behind the scenes of railroads in their heyday. His intriguing life story and dramatic art scandal was made in a documentary: "The Photographer, His Wife and Her Lover". ”

Restaurante estadounidense
“If you’ve got kids who are super into American history (or if you are) and if you like Parker House rolls and people in Betty Ross caps, then you will love this place. Otherwise, not so much. But it’s historic, and it’s an experience, and you should do it once. It’s fun and it’s part of the whole Thomas-Jefferson-worship thing we’ve got going on in this town. You’ll be served fried chicken and mashed potatoes and other southern favorites family-style by servers in period costume. The structure itself is pretty and historic, and the little stores are cute. Actually, I started writing this description with lots of snark, but now I kind of want to go there today with my kids. It’s that kind of place.”
