El alojamiento
The only Coastguard Boat house you can sleep in on Belfast Lough. Completely self contained and safe. A unique experience - a must for sea and history lovers - the Boathouse is so close to the sea that the waves often touch it’s windows. It is less than a metre away from the sea at high tide.

It is also completely detached - no lifts or corridors - or shared spaces. The whole space to yourself.

We air the boat house for 4 hours between stays, use anti-bacterial spray on soft & hard furnishings and thoroughly, professionally clean, disinfect and quarantine items (for four days) so you can be assured we are a safe as possible against Covid- 19. We are registered with Tourism NI and have in place ‘Good to go’ Covid 19 certificate.

Our professional approach to cleanliness is reflected in our reviews.

You get the whole place to yourself as stands by itself. Unique panoramic views of the Lough, across to Down and Antrim Coast. A view, on the Causeway Costal Route, you can see at no other place in Ireland. See Belfast’s famous cranes as you have breakfast and watch the tides come and go. Watch the cruise ships arrive and leave Belfast Lough, view the mussel trawlers harvest the Lough.

Located directly opposite the old coal pier monument (a small castle) - which was where linen was traded from up to 1930s. A tidal clock is provided so you catch the low tide and explore the protected ruin & sea wrecks at the Boat house’s ‘front garden.’

The Boat House has a slipway for visitor’s use with seating so you can people watch - with direct access to beach, cycle path and walk. Car parking is provided but you don’t need a car for this location as the boat house is only ten mins to the city centre.

Despite its closeness to Belfast city, it is set in a private historical row of Coastguard Cottages and is really quiet - much more restful than a busy hotel or apartment block. It has its own private entrance. No loud neighbours to keep you awake - and as its over 150 years old very little sounds pass through the walls. You have full use of the Boat House. The owners live nearby and are on hand to help as much or as little as required.

Each visitor gets advance notice of attractions if required as owner runs a blog on things to do in Belfast. Northern Ireland is celebrating its love of food and for food and drink lovers there are lots of experiences, walks, tours all food related!

The historical building has kept much of its heritage features but with new modern conveniences - new bed and sprung mattress (hand made in Belfast ) shower, oven, microwave and retro fridge freezer, Tv, cable channels, DVD with access to sky news, and other tv channels .

Free wi-fi is provided throughout so you can plan your day's activities in comfort before you venture out. It is all freshly painted and renovated.

All approvals are in place with Tourism NI as in Northern Ireland - it is illegal to rent without these approvals - so you are staying in an approved, safe place.

The boat house can offer a holiday home for people with mobility issues, as we have wide doors, no steps and shower chair. We have hosted adults who need assistance and a child who used a wheelchair. However, you would need some degree of ability a load bare to use toilet/shower - as there isn’t a turning circle. Please see detail in listing or get in touch.

The Boathouse offers visitors a quiet retreat in a very special place - but is a five min train ride from Belfast City Centre or you could catch the bus right outside the private lane. We are located the Coastal route - an hour’s drive takes you to Portrush - for great golf, the Giant’s Causeway and Rope Bridge.

Dogs are welcome to stay at the boat house (provided they aren’t puppies and there’s no more than two.) We offer a little doggie blanket for sandy paws, dog dishes, and there is even a spare dog lead and poop bags !

We take our environmental responsibilities seriously (it’s hard not to when you are so close to the sea) and so use smol washing tabs and toilet paper which is 100% recycled with no harmful inks or dyes.

We are only just open 18 mons please do read our reviews & be assured of a lovely visit in an unique place - you will want to return to again and again.

A car is not essential but if you choose to bring one/hire a car - there is a car parking space right beside the Boat House.

Acceso para huéspedes
All of the boathouse (kitchen, lounge, bedroom, dining and shower/toilet) and slip way - a place with stunning sea views are exclusively for guests. Direct access to coastal shore path/walk - all conveniences are available at Boathouse location. Shops/pubs are a four minute walk.

Otros aspectos destacables
We are one year old but we have already bookings well into 2021 and we are very popular so book quickly - read our reviews to find out why ! Experience a very special heritage building in great location. Guests who book will have a recently renovated kitchen/bathroom/bedroom. We have also been awarded the "Good to Go" accreditation which means we are making every effort to keep our place as Covid safe as possible.

This is the only Coastguard Boat House on Belfast that is available for holiday letting. It offers a very special experience - you can enjoy lively Belfast, but sleep in a detached, quiet, warm place and wake up to the sun raising above the sea. A once in a lifetime view !

Travelling the Causeway Coastal route - we are on this and so offer ease of access for all routes.

Please note, parking is available but guests planning to park must follow the instructions sent by the owner as there is some considerations drivers need to be aware of. There are some access directions you will be grateful that you will have received in advance. There is only parking for car (there is no room for caravan or campervan.)

The Coastguard Boat House is dog friendly but we can only accommodate no more than two dogs (in the living area only.) We cannot accommodate puppies (dogs less than one year old) I'm afraid.

The owner lives behind the Boat House and the Boat House operates a strict no party policy and as it is a heritage building with wooden beams - no flames (smoking or candles)

We don’t accept third party bookings - the people staying in boat house must book it!

I’m afraid if you don’t return our keys we will need to charge you £20 for the cost of replacing these.

Our check out time is 11am - which is later than most. If you stay beyond this time we will may need to charge you - as we need to do our Covid safe thing by ventilating the space..

For guests with dogs we ask for an additional £200 payable before check in via Airbnb (because Airbnb doesn’t cover damage from pets) this is refunded 12 hours after check out provided there is no damage. We don’t permit dogs when people are booking to our full occupancy as I’m afraid there simply isn’t room !

Ten minutes from Belfast city centre via car. Five minutes from Belfast Castle and Belfast zoo. Ten minutes from Carrickfergus Castle. Three minute walk to village with supermarket, bars and restaurants. Located right on beach and cycle path where you can cycle into city centre safely in 40 minutes. When the tide is out you can view ship wrecks on the beach and when in enjoy a lovely sea breeze and a unique view.
A quick five minute taxi drive takes you to the Cavehill, Belfast zoo or Belfast Castle - you could walk but it’s up a big hill!
The Newtownabbey area is surrounded by hills and walks - Carnmoney hill is a short walk away and if you tire of the coastal walk there are many other trails. Angling is very popular and a guide is available for those who want to pick up their rods.
You can walk to The White House - one of oldest buildings in Northern Ireland in 20 mins along the Coast taking in the mix of nature and industry you can see around Belfast Lough.

In the Spring you can walk to Merville Garden Village and see the cherry trees blossom in a former Eighteenth century walled garden - a sight that is akin to ‘pink snow.’

If shopping is your thing you can walk to the Abbey Centre with over 40 shops.

The Coastal walk has also got a coffee stop - walk towards Belfast (20 mins)!until Hazelbank (looks like a forest) go up the hill and you will see the coffee can in the car park.

A bus/train can take you to the Goblins - one of NI’s premier attractions - a cliff walk in Whitehead (open from 1 Sept 2020.)

To assist you with your holiday - we can offer you advice on where to go and what to see, but we know most folks book to enjoy the sea air and quiet village life!
