You'll be staying in one of my sweet bedrooms in my 3 bedroom 1.5 bathroom house. I live in the 3rd room and some other Airbnbers are in my 2nd room. Fun! You've got full access to the house with all the fixings. The house is on Capitol Hill and blocks from the vibrant H Street corridor full of bars and restaurants. Your room, and the house in general have a distinctively patriotic decor, because, c’mon, it’s DC.

▓▓▓▓ Your Private Bedroom ▓▓▓▓

Your bedroom is your domain, and it comes with a lock and a key.

►►The Bed◀◀
Inside you’ll find a queen size memory foam bed, super soft and cool microfiber sheets, a comforter and duvet if you’re a warm weather soul, the normal boring sleeping pillows, and most importantly, a boatload of patriotic throw pillows. Oh, and there might be a delicious mint on your pillow too...because mint is a plant so it *must* be a vegetable. You’ve got side tables on either side of the bed with task lamps if you’re a non kindle-reading-in-bed kind of person and power strips for all your devices. There’s a North facing window that looks over the oh so exciting side of my house, backyard, alley, and neighbors yards. Ok, maybe it’s not so inspiring, but it gives you daylight if you open the blinds. That’s something right?

▖▖▖The Desk ▖▖▖
You get a glass top desk, office chair, task lamp, a power strip of plugs for your gizmos, and a mirror on the wall to gaze longingly into your own eyes whenever you feel like it.

▖▖▖The Closet ▖▖▖
You won’t find a passage to Narnia (or if you do please let me know) but you will find some fuzzy warm blankets if you need extras, hangers for doing that whole clothes hanging thing, a couple of robes, a hamper for towels, and both a fan and space heater in case you’re either one of those white noise kinda folks, or you just like cool/hot air. I don’t discriminate. Next to the closet you’ll find an small storage ottoman (that you can sit on!). It has an extra blanket inside, and a basket on top holds four sets of towels and washcloths. Need more towels? No problem! They’re in a closet in the upstairs hall.

▓▓▓▓ The House In General ▓▓▓▓

Awesome 100 year old classic Capitol Hill rowhouse, fully renovated over the years to feel modern and comfortable. On a quiet street with a spectrum of young professionals, families, and puppies! It is close to the hip H Street, historic Eastern Market, the U.S. Capitol and more. The house is within 1 block of a number of bus routes, capital bike shares, and a couple of blocks away from the H St Streetcar. You’ll live in the future with the keyless entry lock on the front door so all you need is a 4 digit pin.

There is fast and strong wifi throughout the house, so bring your devices. A Nest thermostat keeps the house and humans happy. There's free parking for your car as long as you give me a heads up!

▖▖▖The Kitchen ▖▖▖
There is a coffee maker for making coffee, and a wide selection of teas from all over. I’m a tea dude. I like free food, it’s one of my favorite things. So channeling my inner Oprah, I’m sharing my favorite things with you, carbs! I've got some simple snacks that are my goto comfort food, instant oatmeal and most importantly, my cheap and yet favorite food, a shelf of Cup of Noodles. #MicDrop

▖▖▖The Dining Room ▖▖▖
I’ve got a giant table that is my current restoration project. It started it’s life as a conference table in a war room of a campaign I ran, and she’s been by my side ever since. You can eat here, work here, play here, whatever! There’s ample light for working, and I’ve got office supplies scatters on the shelves around it because MacGyver should have taught you that you can *always* use a paperclip.

▖▖▖The Living Room ▖▖▖
A large 55” or 60”...I can’t remember...flatscreen TV with a Chromecast, Roku and cable, albeit standard definition cable. There’s a cabinet full of puzzles and board games if you ever need. A couch, sitting ottoman, and small bistro table for sitting and contemplating humanity.

▖▖▖Bathrooms ▖▖▖
There is a full bathroom upstairs and a half bathroom downstairs. So keep in mind that means one shower and two toilets. I’ve got toiletries to your heart’s content. Cotton balls, Q-tips, toothbrushes, and razors are all there too in case you forgot something.

The only areas off limits in the house are my own bedroom, and the backyard.

#1
The front steps to my front door are steeper than normal steps. They look normal, but your legs will feel it. Mentally prepare for that calf workout! #LegDay

#2
It’s a 3 bedroom home, I live in one bedroom, you’ll live in 1 bedroom, and some other awesome Airbnbers will live in the 3rd.

#3 Need parking for your vehicle? There is free street parking for one vehicle, but you'll need a visitors parking permit. Let me know your license plate number, and what state it's from, and I'll get you one!

#4
Washington DC has a trap, neuter, and release (TNR) program for feral alley cats in town, which is awesome. That means strays get caught, spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and returned to where they were picked up. It helps to control the feral population and is also humane.

While no pets live inside the home a few of the alley cats have adopted my backyard so I watch after them, especially since they handle all the critters of city life. It’s a mutually beneficial relationship. They are super sweet and nothing like I had imagined from my TV version of alley cats. I hope that doesn’t make me sound like the young, sane, male version of the old crazy cat lady. #SquadGoals

A portion of each Airbnb rental goes to two programs, the CATNIPP program from the Humane Rescue Alliance in DC, and the Alley Cat Allies. Both do phenomenal work so your stay helps to do some good!

While technically a big city, not to mention the center of the free world, DC is a small town to anyone that’s been here for a little while. My slice of it is quaint, quiet, and vibrant. While residential with classic victorians and row homes a plenty, we are just blocks away from the hip and vibrant scene of H Street, full of bars, restaurants, and venues. You’ll also find a number of restaurants and bars near Eastern Market and historic 8th St SE which is about a 20 minute walk away.

The house is conveniently located in a variety of overlapping neighborhoods including Capitol Hill, H Street, and Kingman Park. It’s an Uber ride from anywhere. Two major bus lines pick up within one block. The H St streetcar is a 10 minute walk away and goes all the way to Union Station. Metro subway stops at Eastern Market, Union Station, Potomac Ave, and Stadium Armory are all within a 20 minute walk. There is a Capital Bikeshare station one block away.

My name isn't John, and it isn't Michael. It's in fact John-Michael. I'm a native of Cupertino, California (Where you iPhone comes from!) who has called Washington, DC home for well over a decade. In fact, I've lived in this exact house since 2006! I enjoy intellectual debates and shamelessly trashy reality shows. While I can claim to be roughly 75% foodie, I would legitimately have no problem eating top ramen every day. It's a 3 minute sodium wonder. During the day I run a political consulting firm. During the night I work probono as a Chief of Staff for a non-profit that produces Anime and Pop Culture conventions across the U.S. It makes for an interesting combination. I'm a laid back traveler, and a laid back host.

I think I’m what the interwebs has decided to call an extroverted introvert. So I can totally hang out in my room, stay out of your way, and keep it simple in terms of interaction. On the flipside, I can also chat it up and interact as much as possible. It’s totally up to you. Sometimes I like my anonymity when staying places, other times I don’t mind socializing, I totally get it.
