El alojamiento
Quaint mid-century modern style studio with hard wood floors minutes from the beach. Once a humble home for servicemen of World War II, this carriage house cottage has been updated yet not changed. The Coronado mayor in 1914-1920 owned and lived at this property and rented this charming studio to the men who fought in WWII in the 1940s. The main house saw many politicians and during his time. I recently met the great grand daughter of this mayor and owner of this property in 1910 and have a wealth of historical information on this property available inside the studio guidebook. Lots of influential parties and people must have come through this house in the early 20th century. Longterm 10% discount available for renters who book 3 or more months during low season.

Just remodeled as of February 2016, everything brand new. A serene space with hard wood floors, full kitchen and bathroom and your own private front and back patios. You enter the living room area with a couch that can fold down into a fainting couch or flat for sleeping for one temporary guest. Here you can sit at the coffee table and read or watch TV or look out to the patio. Behind the wooden room divider is the bedroom area with a new full/double bed and my great Aunt’s sewing table as your bedside table. Take a peek inside at the old sewing machine, still has thread. Lots of closet and storage area toward the back. A Beauty Rest cot in the closet for temporary guests. Off of the bedroom area is the full kitchen. The back has glass sliding doors and quaint Jalousie windows that let in the California sunshine and look onto the private outdoor patio. The patio has faux grass and is very sunny in the morning and has a cute bistro table and chairs for breakfast.

This property was built in 1910 and has a quaint, old fashioned seaside feel. It is a quiet, cozy cottage at 400 sq. ft. with beautiful hard wood floors. Only 2 people maximum per stay although there is a comfortable couch that makes into a bed in the living room area available for temporary visitors. It has a nice open outdoor front brick patio with chairs for lounging. It is a very sunny space with glass doors and windows on the back side. It's located blocks from The Hotel Del and beach and kitty corner from old Spreckels Park and the Coronado Library. Spreckels Park has a free Concert in The Park every Sunday at 6PM throughout the summer! The Hotel Del is completely lit with white lights and has an ice skating rink on the beach during winter months. The Vintage Village movie theater is half of a block walk. Mid center town location, minutes from the heart of the village.

GUEST ACCESS AND AMENITIES:
Guests can come and go as they please with their own key. There are two entrances to the studio, one from the back area and one from front. The bed is a full/double and fits two people and there is a couch that makes into a bed for one available for guests. Guests will have two private outside patio sitting areas where they may relax or have breakfast. Two bicycles, BBQ, beach chairs and towels, surf boards, boogie boards are available for use. Surfing lessons available and use of my 9ft Fish Stix longboard too. Parking is never a problem on the street in front.

ABOUT CORONADO:
Coronado is a charming little city and very safe! Coronado is a Smoke Free City. My property is also a no smoking property. Coronado is an island with a bridge to downtown San Diego. There is a ferry that takes you from downtown San Diego to Coronado as well. On the north side of the island is Naval Air Station North Island Navy base. On the south end is the gorgeous Hotel Del Coronado where Marilyn Monroe filmed Some Like it Hot. Drive further south and you enter the Strand, the stretch of beach that takes you through the Tijuana Estuary Reserve and to Imperial Beach. 15 minutes further and you arrive to the border of Mexico!

THINGS TO SEE IN CORONADO:
Explore the 1930s shipwreck SS Monte Carlo gambling ship at the beach in Coronado just south of The Hotel Del. El Nino has taken all the sand out of the shipwreck and now after 80 years underwater you can explore the shipwreck in feet of water or swim out and explore inside. If you are here for summer, you will enjoy the famous 4th of July Parade on Orange Ave and all day activities including the morning ocean swim race and run and culminating in the fireworks at the golf course on the bay at night. Also, every Sunday The Concert in the Park at 6pm is located at Spreckels Park across the street from the studio. This is a free concert where everyone convenes to have a picnic and listen to music. The Wizard of Oz house is located at Star Park where Frank Baum wrote his book The Wizard of Oz while he vacationed in Coronado. The Hotel Del was Baum's inspiration for The Emerald City which is one of Coronado's nickname. See the chandeliers designed by Baum in The Crown Room at The Hotel Del. At the beach, one will discover the plants along the length of the beach spell out 'CORONADO', better viewed from an airplane. The Coronado Historical Museum by Tent City restaurant will show you the rich city history. "Tent City" is another one of Coronado's nicknames. You may also sign up for a historical walking tour of the town. The 1880s Hotel Del is one of the world's iconic sights and host to many famous people including Marilyn Monroe while she filmed Some Like it Hot. Inside you can find old artifacts from a lost time. Biking around Coronado is the easiest way around. Follow the bike path that will take you under The Coronado Bay Bridge and around the golf course then head south towards The Strand. The Strand which connects Coronado to Imperial Beach is a 9mile bike route one way and is a gorgeous way to see the bay and ocean. Or take your bike on the ferry over to Gaslamp downtown and bike along Seaport Village. Taking a trip to Tijuana for the the day or night is easy and only 10 miles south of Coronado. Just park on US side and walk over. Don't forget your passport!

GETTING AROUND:
You can walk or bike anywhere in Coronado. I have two beach cruisers available for you and there are plenty of bike rental shops. Lyft, Uber and taxis available. Also, there is a local Segway tour. There is a free summer shuttle available that'll take you anywhere on the island.

LAUNDRY:
A two minute walk around the corner from the studio to a Wash and Fold where they wash and fold your laundry the same day! Just drop it off and pick up in a couple of hours. Also there is a coin-op laundromat down the street if you want to do it yourself.

Hi! I'm a Coronado native who loves ocean swimming. Southern California has many ocean races like the Coronado Sharkfest, 4th July Coronado Race and La Jolla Gatorman, to name a few. I work full time as a wildlife biologist with endangered shorebirds in Coronado. In my free time, I enjoy, sailing, hiking, bird watching, opera, museums, environmental issues, reading and volunteering. I love living two minutes from a vintage movie theater and a library. I'm slowly planting CA native plants and grass in my yard to help attract more native birds and insects. If you're lucky to visit when my avocado tree or loquat tree are bearing fruit you can eat them as they ripen and fall. If avocados and loquats are not in the cards, then you can always go surfing on my 9 foot surfboard or sit on the patio and BBQ. International travel is my style, buying a ticket and figuring it all out as I go. I'm lucky to live so close to Mexico you can have lunch in Tijuana for the day or drive further south through the raw Baja desert to Cabo San Lucas or swim with Whale Sharks in La Paz . Last year I floated around SE Asia for 106 days! Next on list is Honduras, Peru, Paris, Marrakech and anywhere I can see an Orchid Mantis!

I can help you with things to do in Coronado. I let you enjoy your private retreat but I’m available to answer any questions. During my high work season (March-August) I am working long hours in the field so message me and I’ll reply ASAP. There is a guidebook inside the cottage and on Airbnb linked via my other studio rental. Thanks.
