We had a wonderful stay! The communication with the host was excellent—very responsive, kind, and helpful throughout. The house was amazing, spotless, well-equipped, and exactly as described. I especially enjoyed the outdoor baths, which made the stay even more relaxing. I highly recommend this place and would love to come back! Thank you so much!

The Maneki Machiya staff were extremely responsive and helpful throughout the entire booking process. Our unit happened to be named "Cozy" but "cozy" is the best way to describe not only the houses themselves but also the nature of staying in this quieter, calmer part of Kyoto. The rooms are laid out very smartly and charmingly; a wonderful place to come back to after a long day of temple visits and river walks.

When I lost my wallet in a Taxi they went above and beyond to help with the police to try and find it. Since I don’t speak the language they helped to call the taxi companies and police to help find it. So friendly and helpful, I can't say enough good things about the host. The space was very conveniently located and we had everything we needed within easy walkable distance during our stay. We loved the sitting room decor and comfy seating as well.

We had an unforgettable stay at this serene retreat. Our host, Miko, was exceptionally warm and attentive, making us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. During our visit, we had the unique opportunity to experience a kaiseki-french fusion dinner prepared by a newly appointed chef. Each course was a masterpiece—beautifully presented and bursting with flavor, showcasing the chef’s creativity and attention to detail. The tranquil gardens surrounding the property added to the zen-like ambiance, providing a perfect setting for relaxation and reflection. This stay was a harmonious blend of culinary excellence and peaceful surroundings. Highly recommended for those seeking an authentic and rejuvenating experience.

This is truly a gem of an accommodation for staying in Kyoto. Tokuji renovated this old house with such love for detail, and it was the perfect stay for us. He helped us whenever we needed support and was a truly pleasant host. The neighborhood is quiet and beautiful, offering a peaceful escape from the crowds. We would love to return to this lovely home again.

Très bel hébergement, on s'y sent comme à la maison. Yoko nousi avait même mis des fraises dans le frigos, très gentille attention de sa part. L'arrêt de bus est vraiment très près de la maison et permet de rejoindre le métro ou la gare très rapidement. Un super séjour, tout était parfait!!! Merci Yoko.

Heerlijk huis, super schoon in fijne straat. Dichtbij zijn treinen, bussen etc. Ook veel lekkere restaurants en kleine eetgelegenheden, bijvoorbeeld bij de buren (2 huizen verderop) wordt je gastvrij ontvangen en heb je goed ontbijt met lekkere koffie. De slaapkamers boven bieden wel weinig privacy, want je moet altijd door elkaars kamer. Met een gezin en vrienden is dat ook best gezellig trouwens.

We stayed for two weeks and we like the house, especially the bathroom area with the massage chair and the upstairs spacious sleeping area. It’s also very close to Nijo castle.
