We truly loved this place. The ocean and hills under the overcast sky held a quiet, misty beauty, as if we had stepped into a serene ink painting. The room was warm and cozy, and from the bed, we could gaze out at the distant shoreline and listen to the whispers of the wind. There are many great restaurants nearby, just a short drive away. Time here seemed to drift by slowly and gently.

We felt highly welcome. Vanessa answered a question within minutes and helped out. She asked us if we need anything from the supermarket ( is 45 min. away). Well equipped apartment. Silence. Beach nearly just for us. Perfect. 😀

Cailees place is lovely, it’s clean spacious and well equipped. It’s an older home that has been nicely renovated. As stated her business of ice making is onsite and is closer than we expected but this is only operating during the day and we were out all day and only around in the evenings so no issues. The people are lovely are respectful of your space. The location is next to the shops which is great for picking up the odd thing or eating out. Cailee is an excellent communicator and overall her place was exactly what we needed for our circumstances.

Awsome place to stay it's a good old school kiwi batch with everything you need. Boat ramps right across the road so super easy for fishing trips. Fleur was an awsome host with fast response to everything. Will stay again

We are family of four and a senior dog and the cottage is truly beautiful. It is warm and has everything that you need for your stay. Well equipped kitchen, washing machine and dryer. The reviews did not lie when they said, the beds are comfortable- they really are. The location is great. Beaches are nearby, small townships are a short drive (20mins) or the local fish n chip shop is less than a 5 min walk- sells a great coffee. Teresa is a great host and responsive to questions. If you are not sure if you should book the cottage- don't be. The reviews on Matauri Shearers Cottage is spot on and I absolutely recommend this place, it had everything we needed.

We had a girls weekend away and we could not have found a better place to spend our time together. From the moment we arrived at the top of the driveway to the minute we left that same driveway on the last day-we were just blown away by the spectacular views. But that is just the beginning-it is so well appointed with everything you need to have a home away from home. The beds are super comfy and the bathrooms are spacious and so clean. The views from the bedrooms are truly impressive. Beautiful sunsets and sunrises from the balcony. Vicki is friendly, so easy to communicate with and responds quickly. And you have some incredibly stunning beaches only minutes away! We will be back!! Thank you so much ☺️

The house was exactly as described. Tastefully decorated. The view was superb. Both children and adults enjoyed the pool. Bach Man responded quickly to an annoying issue - Everything fixed asap. There were many beautiful beaches and towns to explore. Cape Reinga was a highlight. Pity about the weather on some of the days - but we made the most of everything. Highly recommend the Fish and Chip shop in Mangonui. Best ever!

Vittoria is an excellent host. Great communication at all times. Accommodation was perfect with no issues at all. Can highly recommend Vittoria and her property!!

We loved our stay at 1st Mates Quarters! Unfortunately there was a terrible storm at the time and Adelle was extremely helpful/responsive and made sure we had everything we needed. The space was an amazing set up with beautiful views! Can’t wait to go back and experience it during better weather.
