Qué harás

Two-hour standard tour
Our standard tour is a guided walk through Bendigo's historic centre surrounded by its unique boom-style architecture.
We describe how gold & mass migration transformed a sleepy sheep run and land of the Dja Dja Wurrung into the world's richest city of the 1880s.
We recall the Bendigo people, events and fabulous wealth that built 'Marvellous Melbourne' and shaped a new nation.
We explore Bendigo's role in campaigns for democracy, votes for women, trade unionism and Federation.
Our stories range from radicals to royalty, larrikins to leaders and include the quirky, remarkable, sometimes humorous, often forgotten, but always intriguing stories of our city.

Where do we walk?
Our standard tour starts at the Bendigo Conservatory adjoining Pall Mall, and moves through the former Government Camp covering a distance of less than a kilometre and finishes at the top of View St next to the Bendigo Art Gallery.
Tailored one-hour tour
We also offer a tailored one hour tour that combines favorites from the two-hour tour with stories of Bendigo's unique pattern of settlement, its boom style architecture and its innovative early housing.
Tours are wheelchair friendly.

I am JIll Hanlon and I am the founder of Bendigo Walking Tours. For three years my husband Peter and I have been hosting fully guided, walking tours through the historic heart Bendigo - one of the world's great goldrush cities.
Our passion is researching and sharing the social and political history of Bendigo - the people and events that shaped our nation.
We have a long connection with the Victorian gold rush.
Pete’s great grandfather was born in a tent on the Bendigo diggings in 1859.
My ancestors were mining at Ballarat during the Eureka Rebellion of 1854 and on other goldfields.

Dónde estarás

Our tours focus on the historic heart of Bendigo including Rosalind Park which was once the Government Camp from where the goldfield was administered.
All around us is Bendigo's boom style architecture.
The tours also take Pall Mall and View St - two of VIctoria's most significant Victorian streetscapes. Tours usually begin at the Conservatory Gardens and end at the acclaimed Bendigo Art Gallery.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed this tour with Jill. It gave us a real insight into the history of Bendigo including the discovery of gold and the evolution of this beautiful city. It really helps when your guide has a passion for their subject which Jill obviously does. Two hours very well spent!

Would highly recommend for anyone who will be in the Bendigo area. Stuck to pretty sheltered areas to stay out of the heat but still covered a lot, and there were lots of really interesting locations included.

We had a very enjoyable and informative 2 hours with Peter. He was waiting for us when we arrived at the easy to find meeting place. Even shared his sunscreen with us! This tour was very comprehensive, talking about the history of Bendigo, the personalities, the natural history and how the gold rush impacted on it and the architecture. Nothing was laboured. Peter shared his family links with us too, which helped personalise the history. Highly recommended!

Our tour was with Peter. Really knowledgeable and brought the history of Bendigo to life through stories of people from the gold rush era. Great to be able to see beyond the surface of this pretty town to learn more about how it was built and what it contributed to the global and Australian economy. Lots of interesting anecdotes that would be relatable to most visitors, I believe. I’d recommend this to any friends or family visiting Bendigo.
