Qué harás

We will meet up at the main gates of Fushimi Inari Shrine. The gate is by Inari station of the JR line. The other rail of Keihan is available to Fushimi Inari, however the meeting point would be a 4 minute walk from that station. Once there, I will explain the history of the area, and Shintoism. We will do a small hike around the area to get a better understanding of the area, but we will not climb to the top. I would also like to provide a Japanese snack at the more local area of Fushimi, and see some of the biggest sake breweries of Japan. There, I would like to introduce you to sake and sample some of the best sake these breweries have to offer!

I'm half-Japanese, born and raised in the States, so I've been called Tsubasa, but I've gone all my life known as Julian. Growing up in both Japan and America, I got to experience and appreciate both perspectives, helping me understand an underlying beauty of Japan.

During my time in Kyoto, I've had jobs as a teacher, bartender, and a tour guide as well, and I use my knowledge to customize an experience for you!

I permanently moved to Japan 7 years ago, and I'd like to leave you with memories that can share my love of the city, nature, and life of Kyoto!

Dónde estarás

First, we'll see Fushimi Inari Shrine, one of Japan's most famous and popular Shinto shrine. This place attracts both Japanese and foreign tourists, making this place one of the most popular tourist locations of Japan.

Next, we step away from the busy area, and head to the local shopping area of Fushimi.

Finally, because Fushimi is known for it's sake, we will go check out two sake breweries of the area, and try some sake tasting!

Julian is such a humble and warm-hearted human being. My mother and I were the only ones on this tour and we were lucky to experience this personal and thoughtful guided tour. Julian came up with so many interesting and informative stories, he really was an expert and we could not have wished for a better guide. Especially the local area of Fushimi away from the crowds and the sake tasting was so much fun. He even accompanied us back to the city center and exceeded the time limit of one hour! Just because he wanted us to have a hassle free time. Thank you, Julian! We will always remember you when thinking of our trip to Kyoto.

Julian knows his history! In addition to his tour being chock full of information, he answered all my questions about Japanese history and modern culture/customs. He even knew where to go within the shrine to avoid the crowds. If I had attempted to do this on my own, I would have only gone to the shrine, but Julian took me to a great food stall (a few rail stops away from the shrine) and two sake breweries. I feel like I really got to know more about Japanese culture, Buddhism, Shintoism, and sake. I highly recommend Julian's tour.

Julian was very personable and a wonderful guide. The weather didn't cooperate well for picture taking but he still gave a well informed and interesting tour.

We feel fortunate to have connected with Julian. He is very knowledgeable and pleasant and has put together a fun and informative tour of Fushimi Inari Taisha, known worldwide as one of the most iconic sights in Kyoto and in Japan as a whole. He does have a thorough knowledge of the area and his love for the city is evident. Having been raised in the U.S., he has full command of the English language. We learned many interesting facts about Shinto and this beautiful shrine and its thousands of vermilion torii gates. We enjoyed trying the local snacks prepared by second-generation owners and the tour of two sake breweries with separate tastings since the area is famous for its ideal water to make sake. The Gekkeikan brewery had a very interesting museum where we learned the sake-making process. We would highly recommend Julian's tour if you’re looking to experience this iconic and beautiful area with a more unique local flavor.
