It was a brief one night stopover for us but we found the Fern and Thistle to be charming and comfortable. Darryn and Sandy were there to greet us and show us around. They were very friendly and welcoming and very happy to give suggestions for a place to get dinner (we had a wonderful dinner at an Indian restaurant in town). Our room was spacious and well appointed complete with fresh flowers and delicious chocolate biscuits. We enjoyed the continental breakfast before getting on our way. It was a great stay and we would definitely come back again.

Stunning place, lots of little extras that make it special eg chocolates and cold free beer. Host very friendly and made you feel right at home. Free breakfast with homemade bread and jam was an added extra. The house has a great history. This is one of the best places we have stayed

Staying at Steve and Liv’s place was the perfect family holiday for us. We were 9 people- 4 adults and 5 kids, and there was heaps of room. It was so clean and easy to heat (using the fire and heat pump as needed), and has a huge garden. Liv was great to communicate with, and the local recommendations were spot on- especially Dave’s coffee shop! The hot tub was a hit with the kids and adults, and there was lots of firewood to use. We even saw the southern lights aurora one night! The view from the house is also beautiful, looking out over the hills of the Catlins. The house is perfectly positioned for exploring the Catlins- an hour to Curio Bay, and half an hour to Nugget Point- and so many beautiful walks and places in between. We should have stayed longer, I think 5 days would be needed to fully enjoy the area. Absolutely recommend this place to families and couples alike, it’s so comfortable and truely a home away from home.

Great place. Beautiful scenery. Perfect for relaxing and we enjoyed the spa, especially with the clear night sky. Would definitely stay there again.

We really enjoyed staying at Niagara Ridge Retreat. The house was comfortable, view was amazing, and we liked the location.

A wonderful BnB to explore the Catlins from and unwind for a weekend. The space felt much bigger than what it was with vast windows, ocean/lake views, and use of the deck, bbq and hot tub! Jo was amazing with communication and very welcoming. She even made a little chocolate cake for us!

Amazing time - one of most beautiful locations have stayed at. Everything you need for a perfect break, you won’t want to leave the property once you get there!

We absolutely loved our stay! The unit was clean, has stunning views and was very peaceful and relaxing! We really appreciated the kitchen being stocked with fresh milk, orange juice and muesli! It was lovely to come back to a spa at the end of the day after adventuring around The Catlins. Thank you Lisa :)
