We rented The Cape for my husband and I, plus our adult children and their families. This is a very home-like rental, surrounded by beautiful grounds and right on the river. It was exactly what we expected for an 1880’s east-coast home; it reminded me of my grandmother’s property. Melissa is a very enthusiastic and caring host. This is the perfect rental if you are looking for a charming old home with lots of character, privacy, nature, and active outdoor options.

Beautifully rustic, quiet and charming! We booked Penny’s place because we were looking for a rustic stay. The weather in September was ideal for this indoor/outdoor space. Fully stocked kitchen, and loads of space for dining and relaxing. We lucked out and didn’t have anyone else staying on property while we were, and I will say it’s a bit of a fishbowl, so if you’re looking for privacy, it’s not here. We had a superb time!

Large cabin with plenty of bedrooms to accommodate our family's needs. Good location with nearby river access and within easy driving distance to much of what Cape Breton has to offer.

Fantastic stay! The photos don't give justice to the whole aspect of the barn: well thought, charming, confortable, with a perfect view... George is super friendly and knowledgeable of the area (and speaks perfectly French!!!) It really was a delight!

It's hard to overstate the special nature of this property. You're situated between two bodies of water, the grounds feel both wild and tended, the barn itself is voluminous and dripping in character and charm. If you are the kind of guest who can't do without a microwave and a TV and a stainless fridge, this is not your property. If, like us, you find the lack of a few things an utterly refreshing invitation for a mind and habit reset, and if, like us, you know that hosts who become the best kind of neighbors from the moment you step into their circle can lend you anything not in the kitchen drawers, then do what we did and book this property, cook and serve lobsters in any of the multiple copper pots (as your hosts will encourage you to do), pick a peach off the tree, kayak and swim off the dock, picnic by the water, sit out under the stars.

Fantastic stay for a month at a great site with good walking to shops and restaurants in Chester for optional car free days. Would highly recommend repeat stays at this wonderful site for exploring all that the South Shore of Nova Scotia has to offer within an hours drive to Halifax. Liz and John are wonderful hosts and the Barn is very cozy with the energy of 'home' to unwind after some busy days of being out and about.

Karen was terrific, always responding quickly to our questions. The setting and house were beautiful with all the comforts of home. The house was conveniently located for a variety of destinations in DownEast Maine.

Nicole’s house had everything we needed for our month-long stay. The kitchen was well equipped, the house is comfortable, and we loved the screened in porch and large backyard. It’s close very close to barred island and Sylvester cove, a favorite spot for our family. Nicole is very friendly, communicative, and totally on top of anything that needed her attention.

Such a beautiful space inside and out! We wished we could have stayed longer and appreciated the perfect touches and hospitality our hosts offered. My all-time favorite Air B&B!

check-in was a breeze, the drawn map was extremely helpful! we had Finnelis and had the BEST pizza doordashed. we explored town, loved the old theatre 🎥 ❤️ the bathroom was a but chilly but the water ran hot! the heat unit was above the bed, but we managed by scooting the bed towards the window (I like to be warm but with a cool draft) LOVED the sunlight in the morning & afternoon! I would definitely stay in the summer just to wake up to the birds and greenery. I'll be back!

Beautiful location, great space, excellent host. The restaurant at the golf course is delicious! Apartment is perfect for larger groups or family gatherings. My only suggestion would be a king bed but otherwise it was amazingly welcoming.

Nous avons adoré ce logement. Il était encore plus beau que sur les photos, vraiment coquet. Très propre. La vue donne sur un champs et nous avons eu la chance de voir un chevreuil et plusieurs oiseaux de proies c'était génial. Nous avons annulé quelques activités pour pouvoir passer plus de temps au logement pour en profiter. 2 jours n'est pas suffisant. Un coup de coeur dans notre voyage. Nous le recommandons fortement.

This place was medicine for me ! So much more than described and the pictures don’t begin to tell the story of the peace, beauty, salt of the earth feeling of this gem. The apple orchard outside your door is magic in itself (with a lot of hard work reflected )…. The rental space is lovely; spacious , peaceful , comfortable in every way and , well, pure charm! There’s a serene view out every window . Emily and Brien were wonderful hosts , responsive and accommodating in every way . These are people you just want to know ! Hope is the name of the town and that says it all for me . This whole area is a sanctuary with the bustle of gorgeous Camden (and much more) in easy reach, but staying here is an opportunity for personal growth and reflection in an amazing space. It exudes light and love and prompts an inward journey. Whatever you may be healing from , take HOPE right here . I will look forward to returning to ALL , this wonderful place has to offer .

If you like to relax and cook and are in search of a restful vacation home, this is it. It’s cozy and spacious at the same time, warm with natural light, wood everywhere, a fireplace, and really comfortable furnishings and fixtures. The kitchen has everything a chef could possibly need to cook (and cook we did!), and the living space is just so peaceful. We just kept saying, “We’d totally live here.” This was the quintessential staycation home. Very grateful for our time away at The River Barn. We wish we could have stayed longer!

Susan and Tom’s cottage was the perfect place to relax and get away from busy city life. The cottage had everything we needed. The location was remote, with wildlife popping by everyday, but still very close to the Schoodic area of Acadia National Park. Susan was kind enough to accommodate our late check in and even provided coffee and breakfast cake for the morning. She and Tom were super friendly and clearly take pride in their home! We’d definitely stay here again.

It was a great location to explore both Acadia National Park and Camden. Easy to get to grocery stores to get supplies to make breakfast in the fully appointed kitchen. Starting my day with a cup of coffee overlooking the beautiful meadow was just what I needed to begin a vacation day off right.

The barn is a really special place on a really amazing island. There are so many hidden gem areas on this island. It’s a true place to get away, explore and have some time in a secluded place, but still close to some amazing things. I was at the barn for 4 nights. Went to Acadia and bar harbor one day and hunkered down the other 2 as it was raining. The places to explore on the island are beautiful, even in the rain and allowed me to have some time away from reality. Highly recommend staying in the cranberry isles…especially at Judi/Chong’s place.

It was hard to leave! The apartment is lovely, it has everything I needed…it was spotless. The views are incredible! Having my morning coffee looking over the vineyard in the fall was so peaceful. The area is beautiful…close to town, but it felt private. Anne-Marie was very helpful and quick to reply. I can’t wait to go back! Thanks Anne-Marie!

All the previous reviews indicated we would love this location, the setting, the caring of the host....we were inspired to join Airbnb to just be able to stay here!!! The beauty of the surroundings is remarkable and we admire the care taken to keep it in its refined natural state. We are so thankful we took the description and reviews to heart! We now have another great Maine memory!

Amazing host, really good place

Johnny's place was beautiful and peaceful... would recommend for anyone looking to take beautiful photos of the area as well.

We arrived late and were tired. It is 18 miles off the main road, and worth the drive. We got in easily. Property manager, nearby was very friendly and helpful! Fire pit and fire at the end of the road with a fantastic quiet view. The house was lovely, very clean and the kitchen was fully stocked. We recommend this place to others.

Shawna’s apartment worked very well for 4 of us. We were comfortable and had all we needed. It was well-equipped, clean and quiet, and the AC was great. The walk to the main part of Chester is a bit hilly but easily doable. A great place to stay when visiting Chester.
